Queen – Sheer Heart Attack 500-Piece Puzzle

Released on 8 November 1974, Sheer Heart Attack is Queen's third studio album and the record that accelerated the band's international breakthrough. More direct and varied than its predecessors, it includes Killer Queen, Now I'm Here and Stone Cold Crazy.

Killer Queen became Queen's biggest UK hit at the time, reaching No. 2 in the charts, while the album became their first to enter the US Top 20.

A Cover Shot by Mick Rock

Following his famous photograph for Queen II, Queen once again asked photographer Mick Rock to create the cover of Sheer Heart Attack. This time, however, the band wanted something radically different.

The brief was very specific: the four musicians wanted to look exhausted and abandoned, as though they had been washed up on the shore of a desert island. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon were therefore arranged together on the floor for the photograph.

To achieve the sweaty, almost chaotic appearance, Mick Rock used a rather unusual technique: the members of Queen were covered with Vaseline and glycerine, then sprayed with water before being photographed. 💦

Did you know? Freddie Mercury later recalled the ordeal of convincing the other members to cover themselves in Vaseline before being sprayed with water. Brian May explained that Queen wanted to break away from their own established image and stop simply trying to look beautiful.
