Released on 26 October 1981, Greatest Hits brings together Queen's major successes from Seven Seas of Rhye in 1974 through to Flash in 1980. The UK edition includes Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust, Don't Stop Me Now, We Will Rock You, Somebody to Love and We Are the Champions, among many others.

More than four decades after its release, its success remains extraordinary: Greatest Hits is the best-selling album of all time in the UK and the first to pass 7 million equivalent UK chart sales.

The cover brings together Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon in a striking group portrait set almost entirely against black.

The famous photograph was taken by Lord Snowdon, one of Britain's leading portrait photographers, who was also married to Princess Margaret. The session took place at his own studio and, despite the carefully controlled appearance of the portrait, Snowdon used only natural light. 📸

The image was tilted for the familiar composition used on the original 1981 sleeve. For the 2011 reissue, the photograph was instead presented in its original orientation.
