A design filled with hidden references 🔍

The artwork borrows the visual codes of a vintage label, closely resembling those found on traditional beer bottles or brewery signs without reproducing any actual Metallica product. At its centre sits the Metallica logo inside a green-and-white emblem, topped by a winged skeletal creature with long fangs. The inscriptions Since 1981, San Francisco, CA, Seek and Destroy and 100% Fuel by Vol. cleverly replace the information normally found on a bottle label.

The phrase 100% Fuel by Vol. humorously plays on the familiar Alcohol by Vol. statement, suggesting that Metallica's music is all the fuel fans really need. Meanwhile, San Francisco pays tribute to the city where the band established itself as one of the pioneers of American thrash metal.

Despite its appearance, this artwork is not based on an official Metallica beer label. It was created specifically for the band's merchandise. Metallica's first official beer, Enter Night Pilsner, was not released until 2019 and features a completely different visual identity.
