At first glance, it appears completely blank. Looking more closely reveals the band's logo in the upper left corner and a discreet coiled rattlesnake in the lower right. This bold minimalist approach broke with the visual standards of the era and turned The Black Album into one of the most recognisable album covers in rock history.

This patch faithfully recreates that visual identity while adapting it for embroidered textile. Unlike the first vinyl pressing, where both the logo and the snake were embossed in glossy black and only became visible depending on the light, this embroidered version highlights the Metallica logo in white for improved readability. The rattlesnake remains a discreet dark grey, preserving the minimalist spirit of the original artwork.

The snake featured on the cover is directly inspired by the famous Gadsden Flag, created in 1775 during the American Revolution. The flag depicts a rattlesnake above the motto "Don't Tread on Me", a phrase that can be understood as "Don't step on me" or, more naturally, "Don't push me around." A symbol of vigilance, independence and resistance, it directly inspired the song Don't Tread on Me, featured on the album.
