Metallica Flag – Master of Puppets

This Metallica – Master of Puppets flag features the artwork from the band's third studio album, released on 3 March 1986.

Against a black background, rows of white crosses rise from a cemetery at sunset. Each one is attached by strings to two red puppet-master hands looming above the scene. The Metallica logo sits at the centre, with the Master of Puppets title across the lower part of the design.

The cover concept was created by Metallica and Peter Mensch and painted by American illustrator Don Brautigam.

The crosses controlled like puppets directly connect with one of the album's central themes: manipulation and loss of control. The title track Master of Puppets notably deals with addiction and the way it ultimately takes control of the person who believed they controlled it.

The album also features Battery, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Disposable Heroes, Orion and Damage, Inc.

Cliff Burton's final Metallica album

Master of Puppets was the final Metallica studio album recorded with bassist Cliff Burton. On 27 September 1986, only months after the album's release, Burton died in the band's tour bus accident in Sweden.

His playing is particularly prominent throughout the record, including the instrumental Orion, which he co-wrote. 🤘
