In the early 1990s, Chuck Schuldiner asked for Death's logo to be simplified. Controversial elements, including the inverted cross found in the earliest versions, were removed because he wanted the band to be recognised primarily for its music rather than for satanic imagery. This refined design has since become one of Death's best-known logos.
