On August 15, 1965, The Beatles took to the stage at New York's Shea Stadium in front of approximately 55,600 people 🏟️ A historic performance now regarded as one of the landmark events in the rise of large-scale stadium rock concerts.

Shea Stadium: August 15, 1965

The concert opened The Beatles' second North American tour, which ran from August 15 to 31, 1965. Across sixteen concerts, the band visited cities including Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles before ending the tour in San Francisco.

Shea Stadium, however, was on another scale. Filling a baseball stadium with more than 55,000 people for a rock band was extraordinary at the time. The Beatles performed in the middle of the field, far from much of the audience, while the screams from the crowd at times made the music itself difficult to hear.

A Sixties-style concert poster 🎸

The design uses the look of a period promotional poster, with a light blue monochrome print against a dark blue background. It features the four Beatles in front of a car, musical notes and several references to the concert.

The lower section includes titles such as Can't Buy Me Love, A Hard Day's Night and Ticket to Ride, together with the prominent AUG. 15 1965 date, placing the design firmly in the Beatlemania era.
