A Turning Point for Nightwish

With Century Child, Nightwish developed the orchestral dimension of their music even further. For the first time on a Nightwish album, real orchestral musicians were used, notably on tracks including Bless the Child and Beauty of the Beast.

Marco Hietala's arrival also significantly changed the band's sound. His voice allowed Tuomas Holopainen to develop male and female vocal interplay with Tarja Turunen, notably on Dead to the World and their version of The Phantom of the Opera.

Did you know? Century Child includes Nightwish's version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, performed as a duet by Tarja Turunen and Marco Hietala. The song became one of the best-known duets associated with this Nightwish line-up on stage.
