Despite popular belief, Blizzard of Ozz was not originally intended to be a solo album. It was first conceived as the name of Ozzy Osbourne's new band following his departure from Black Sabbath, alongside Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake.

Only later did the record become officially recognised as Ozzy's debut solo album, although the contributions of the other musicians remain fundamental to its enduring success.
