Bark at the Moon: a new chapter for Ozzy

Bark at the Moon is Ozzy Osbourne's third studio album, released in 1983. It was his first studio album following the death of guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1982 and the first in his catalogue to feature Jake E. Lee on guitar.

The album includes Bark at the Moon and So Tired. Its title track was also accompanied by Ozzy's first proper music video, in which he appeared wearing the same creature makeup associated with the album artwork. 🌕

Ozzy as a werewolf: the story behind the cover

For the Bark at the Moon artwork, Ozzy Osbourne was transformed into a werewolf. Photographer Fin Costello, who had already worked on previous Ozzy covers, photographed the elaborate transformation at Shepperton Studios in England in 1983.

The resulting image shows an almost unrecognisable Ozzy with long hair, exposed fangs and extensive prosthetic makeup in a scene inspired by classic werewolf imagery.

The flag reproduces this composition with Ozzy in the foreground, the full moon above and the Bark at the Moon title on the right. A design closely associated with the horror-influenced heavy metal imagery of the early 1980s.
