About the album MotöriZer: Released in 2004, MotöriZer marks a return to Motörhead's roots, with a raw punk energy that solidifies its place in the band's legendary discography. Tracks like "Killers" and "Whorehouse Blues" helped cement their reputation among long-time fans.
Design Backstory: The cover of this album features the coats of arms of the three countries of origin of the band members: England for Lemmy, Wales for Phil Campbell, and Sweden for Mikkey Dee. Although this cover may seem simple at first glance, it actually marks a significant turning point in Motörhead's discography.
In fact, in 2007, Joe Petagno, the iconic illustrator of Motörhead's album covers since 1977, parted ways with the band after a disagreement with their management, for reasons that remain unclear. He publicly announced that he would no longer collaborate with Lemmy and the band.
This likely explains why the covers of Motörizer and its successor The Wörld Is Yours (2010) merely reused an old design of Snaggletooth, dating back to the first album in 1977. It wasn’t until 2013, with the release of Aftershock, that we finally got a new version of our favorite mascot, drawn by a different illustrator, Swedish artist Terje Aspmo.
This design brings together several defining markers of heavy metal, a scene where Motörhead left a lasting mark.
