This officially licensed Megadeth pencil case draws directly from the artwork of Rust in Peace, the band's fourth studio album, released in 1990. Against the black background, the large gold Megadeth logo stands in front of the famous album-cover scene. ⚡

In the background stands Vic Rattlehead, Megadeth's mascot, surrounded by several world leaders. The scene directly references the cover of Rust in Peace, created by artist Ed Repka.

The artwork includes representations of George H. W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, John Major, Toshiki Kaifu and Richard von Weizsäcker, gathered around Vic and an alien held inside a capsule. The imagery reflects the geopolitical tensions and nuclear fears surrounding the end of the Cold War.

Rust in Peace, a thrash metal landmark

Released on 24 September 1990, Rust in Peace introduced Marty Friedman and Nick Menza alongside Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson, creating one of the most celebrated line-ups in Megadeth history.

The album features tracks including Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Hangar 18, Tornado of Souls and Take No Prisoners, and remains one of the defining records of American thrash metal.

The title Rust in Peace originated from a phrase Dave Mustaine saw on a bumper sticker referring to nuclear weapons: “May all your nuclear weapons rust in peace”. It proved particularly fitting for the album's political and nuclear themes.
