Pink Floyd – Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd 500-Piece Puzzle

Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd is a compilation released in November 2001, spanning more than thirty years of Pink Floyd's career, from Arnold Layne in 1967 to High Hopes from 1994's The Division Bell.

This 500-piece Pink Floyd puzzle features one of the images created for Echoes by Storm Thorgerson and Peter Curzon. Like the compilation itself, the artwork works as a retrospective, filled with characters, objects and scenery referring to Pink Floyd's visual history. 🔍

A Giant Pink Floyd Visual Puzzle

The concept revisits the famous 1969 Ummagumma sleeve: a succession of windows creates an image-within-an-image effect, apparently continuing deeper into the scene. It is an especially appropriate idea for an album called Echoes.

Look closely and Pink Floyd's history appears throughout the artwork. References found across the different versions include the Animals pig, the Atom Heart Mother cow, the wall and hammers from The Wall, the beds from A Momentary Lapse of Reason, the light-bulb-covered figure from Delicate Sound of Thunder, the two faces from The Division Bell and imagery connected to Wish You Were Here.

And This Impossible-Looking Set Was Real

Did you know? The receding-window illusion was not simply created on a computer. Real walls were constructed in the English countryside, using deliberately different measurements and angles so that the structures would only appear to line up correctly when viewed through the camera lens.

Storm Thorgerson's idea was to create something physically real yet visually puzzling: successive layers repeating into the distance like an echo. Props recalling Pink Floyd's history were then placed throughout the set, turning the photograph itself into a visual puzzle.

Which makes this one particularly appropriate: a physical jigsaw puzzle based on an image that was itself designed as a Pink Floyd puzzle.

Made by Zee Productions for the Rock Saws collection, the artwork can be reconstructed in 500 pieces.
