Delicate Sound of Thunder is the double live album released by Pink Floyd in 1988, recorded during the huge tour that followed A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

This 500-piece Pink Floyd puzzle recreates its spectacular cover conceived by Storm Thorgerson: two figures face each other in a barren landscape, one covered in light bulbs and the other surrounded by birds. ⚡

Sound and Light Brought Together in One Image

Storm Thorgerson wanted the cover to represent one of the defining elements of a Pink Floyd concert: the combination of sound and light.

The figure in the foreground, wearing a suit completely covered in light bulbs, represents light and became known as Mr Light. In the distance, the second figure is surrounded by a flock of birds, whose song represents sound: he is known as Mr Sound.

The cover therefore literally stages Mr Light facing Mr Sound, a direct visual representation of the relationship between Pink Floyd's spectacular lighting and their live sound.

A Real Scene Photographed in Spain

As with many of Storm Thorgerson's remarkable cover concepts, the surreal image was not simply created as a photomontage. The scene was photographed in a barren landscape in central Spain.

Did you know? The bulbs were real and were hung from numerous small hooks attached to Mr Light's suit. The birds surrounding Mr Sound were real too and were released from behind a rock at the moment the photograph was taken.

Delicate Sound of Thunder combines material from A Momentary Lapse of Reason with Pink Floyd classics including Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Time, Wish You Were Here, Money and Comfortably Numb.
