Two symbols of British culture brought together on one patch: the famous The Who logo and the blue, white and red roundel closely associated with the Mod scene. This 9.5 cm diameter round patch features the band's black lettering and distinctive arrow against the three coloured circles.

The Who, the roundel and Mod culture

The target design wasn't originally created for The Who. Derived from the insignia of Britain's Royal Air Force, the roundel was adopted by Mod culture during the 1960s and became one of the movement's most recognisable visual symbols.

It was during this period that The Who became closely associated with the Mod scene. Songs such as I Can't Explain and especially My Generation in 1965 connected the band with a new generation of British youth. That relationship remained an important part of The Who's history and would later find another major expression with Quadrophenia in 1973.

An unmistakable The Who logo

At the centre of the roundel is the classic The Who lettering: the two words stacked together with the distinctive arrow extending upwards from the “o”. Dating back to the band's early years, this graphic identity became one of The Who's most enduring visual trademarks.

It translates perfectly into patch form: bold colours, instantly recognisable lettering and a circular shape directly echoing the classic Mod target.
