Blackout: one of the most iconic hard rock album covers ever created

Official Scorpions Blackout sew-on patch – 10 × 10 cm

⚡ This official Scorpions patch faithfully reproduces the legendary Blackout album cover, the record that established the German band as one of the world's leading hard rock acts. Created by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein, the artwork has become one of the most recognisable images in rock history.

The album that took Scorpions worldwide 🤘

Released on 29 March 1982, Blackout marked a turning point in Scorpions' career. Driven by classics such as Blackout, No One Like You, Dynamite and Can't Live Without You, it firmly established the band on the international hard rock scene.

The album's success was even more remarkable because vocalist Klaus Meine had just recovered from a serious vocal condition that had threatened his career. His powerful performance on Blackout became one of the defining moments of the band's history.

Artwork analysis 🔍

The patch faithfully reproduces the original cover artwork. At the centre is a screaming man whose head is completely wrapped in thick white bandages. Two metal forks appear to pierce the bandages across his eyes, while fragments of broken glass surround his face against a vivid blue background. The classic red Scorpions logo dominates the top of the design, with the red Blackout title below.

Both disturbing and unforgettable, the image has become one of the defining visual symbols of 1980s hard rock.
