👅 This official Rolling Stones patch faithfully reproduces the legendary Tongue and Lips logo, widely regarded as one of the most recognisable images in music history. More than fifty years after its creation, the famous red lips and extended tongue continue to embody the rebellious, provocative and free-spirited attitude of the Rolling Stones.

The logo that became bigger than the band 🤘

Designed in 1970 by British graphic designer John Pasche, the logo was commissioned by Mick Jagger as the band sought a new visual identity. It first appeared around the release of Sticky Fingers in 1971 before evolving into a worldwide cultural icon.

Today, the famous tongue is recognised instantly, often without the band's name appearing at all. Very few music logos have achieved such universal recognition.

Artwork analysis 🔍

This patch faithfully reproduces John Pasche's original artwork. It depicts bright red lips slightly parted to reveal the upper teeth, with a large tongue deliberately extended downward. A bold black outline enhances the instantly recognisable silhouette.

Unlike an embroidered patch, this model is woven. The weaving process allows finer details, smoother curves and sharper outlines, making it particularly well suited to faithfully reproducing this iconic design.

Contrary to popular belief, the logo was not based solely on Mick Jagger's lips. John Pasche later explained that he also drew inspiration from the Hindu goddess Kali, who is frequently depicted with her tongue extended as a symbol of power and defiance.

The original artwork has become a celebrated piece of graphic design. In 2008, London's Victoria and Albert Museum acquired John Pasche's original drawing, recognising it as one of the most influential designs in the history of popular music.
