The album that made history 🤘

Released on 22 March 1994, Far Beyond Driven followed the hugely successful Vulgar Display of Power. Despite being even heavier and more aggressive, it achieved something previously thought impossible by becoming the first extreme metal album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Tracks including I'm Broken, 5 Minutes Alone, Strength Beyond Strength and Becoming remain among Pantera's most celebrated songs.

An alternative version of one of metal's most controversial artworks 🔍

This patch faithfully reproduces the alternative cover artwork for Far Beyond Driven. At its centre is a large blue skull, viewed from a slightly low angle, while a green drill bit descends vertically into the top of the skull. The cold blue tones contrast sharply with the weathered orange PANTERA logo and the white Far Beyond Driven lettering, creating one of the band's most recognisable visuals.

💡 Did you know?

The artwork shown on this patch was not the band's original choice. The first concept featured a drill bit penetrating a human anus, an image considered far too explicit for commercial distribution. It was therefore replaced by this skull version before the album's wide release.

Today, that censorship story remains one of the best-known controversies in heavy metal artwork and has become an important part of Far Beyond Driven's enduring legacy.
