Official Gojira Sculpted Heads iron-on patch – Ø 8.5 cm

This official Gojira iron-on patch features the Sculpted Heads design. Two sculpted heads dominate the centre of the circular composition: one shown from the front and the other in profile. The artwork combines black, ochre and red tones, with the GOJIRA name displayed across the lower section.

Gojira, from French metal to the international stage

Formed in the Landes region of France in 1996 by brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier, alongside Christian Andreu and Alexandre Cornillon, the band gradually developed a metal sound combining rhythmic power, atmospheric passages and complex compositions.

After several demos, Gojira released their debut album, Terra Incognita, in 2001. Albums including From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh, Magma and Fortitude subsequently accompanied the band's rise on the international stage.

From Godzilla to Gojira

In their early years, the band performed under the name Godzilla. In 2001, shortly before the release of Terra Incognita, they permanently adopted Gojira, which is simply the Japanese name for Godzilla.

The word Gojira (ゴジラ) is generally described as a combination of the Japanese words gorira (“gorilla”) and kujira (“whale”), from which the name of the monster created by Toho Studios was derived.
