Cypress Hill Flag – Rise Up

Hands gripping a flagpole, a huge red flag bearing the words “RISE UP” and the Cypress Hill name dominating the composition: this Cypress Hill – Rise Up flag draws on the imagery developed around the Californian group's eighth studio album.

The design uses a limited black, white, red and grey palette with a deliberately distressed appearance reminiscent of screen-printed posters and protest graphics. 🔥

Rise Up: Cypress Hill return in 2010

Released on April 20, 2010, Rise Up is Cypress Hill's eighth studio album and their first collection of new material since Till Death Do Us Part, released six years earlier.

It also marked an important change for the group. After years with Columbia, Rise Up was released through Priority Records and pushed Cypress Hill's established crossover between hip-hop and rock even further.

Tom Morello, Mike Shinoda, Daron Malakian...

The guest list reflects that approach. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine appears on the title track Rise Up, while Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park features on Carry Me Away and Daron Malakian of System of a Down appears on Trouble Seeker.

The album also features Everlast on Take My Pain, plus Pitbull and Marc Anthony on Armada Latina, reflecting Cypress Hill's ability to move between rap, rock and Latin influences.

A flag within the flag

The artwork directly plays on the uprising suggested by the title Rise Up. Several hands grip the pole of a huge red flag carrying those two words, while the Cypress Hill name fills the upper section.

Rather than simply reproducing the album cover, this textile flag presents its own variation on the visual identity surrounding Rise Up.

Did you know?

Tom Morello's involvement went beyond a guest guitar appearance: the Rage Against the Machine guitarist is also credited as a composer and producer on Rise Up. The track was released as a single in 2010.
