Released as a single in 1972 during the US presidential campaign between Richard Nixon and George McGovern, Elected turned the race for political power into a theatrical and satirical rock song.

The single preceded the 1973 release of Billion Dollar Babies, where the track appeared. The album went to No. 1 in both the US and UK, while Elected became a hit in its own right, reaching No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart. ⚡
