“Elected”: Alice Cooper hits the campaign trail

Released as a single in 1972, during the US presidential campaign between Richard Nixon and George McGovern, Elected turns the race for power into a theatrical and satirical rock song.

The track preceded the release of Billion Dollar Babies in 1973, the album on which it appears and which reached number one in both the US and UK charts. Elected was also a major success, climbing to number 4 in the UK charts. ⚡

1969 – 2011: from the early days to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

One detail in the artwork takes on particular significance: the years 1969 and 2011 appear on either side of the word Elected. 1969 marks the release of Pretties for You, the first Alice Cooper album, while 2011 corresponds to the induction of the original Alice Cooper band into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The choice of the word Elected therefore creates a clever double meaning: it refers to the 1972 single while visually linking the band's recording beginnings with its Hall of Fame recognition more than four decades later. 🤘
