Darkthrone and Norwegian black metal

Formed in Norway in the late 1980s, Darkthrone began as a death metal band before becoming one of the key names of the second wave of Norwegian black metal.

Albums including A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger had a major influence on the sound and visual identity of the genre in the early 1990s.
