Slipknot – Iowa: the band and their home state in one emblem

Official Slipknot Iowa iron-on patch – 8 × 8 cm

This official Slipknot iron-on patch combines the name IOWA with several graphic elements closely associated with the band. Distressed white lettering runs across a black and electric-blue composition, with Slipknot's famous tribal S at the centre surrounded by a nine-point circular motif.

Rather than using a standard square piece of fabric, the 8 × 8 cm patch is cut to follow the outline of the emblem, giving it a particularly distinctive silhouette.

Iowa: much more than an album title

Iowa is first and foremost the American state where Slipknot was formed. The band emerged from Des Moines in the mid-1990s and maintained a strong connection with a place far removed from the traditional centres of the US music industry.

In 2001, Slipknot named their second studio album Iowa. Following the breakthrough of 1999's Slipknot, the record pushed the band's aggression and dark atmosphere even further with tracks including People = Shit, Left Behind, My Plague and the lengthy title track Iowa.

The number nine at the heart of Slipknot's identity

The artwork also reflects the importance of the number 9 within Slipknot imagery. In the band's classic line-up, its nine members were identified by numbers from 0 to 8 alongside their individual masks and matching jumpsuits.

This collective identity also appears in several graphic symbols associated with Slipknot, including nine-point constructions used throughout the band's visual world. Here, they surround the central S and reinforce the unmistakable Slipknot aesthetic.

Black, white and electric blue

The contrast between the black background, white lettering and electric-blue embroidery gives this patch a very different appearance from the red imagery often associated with Slipknot. The distressed IOWA lettering completes a compact but highly detailed design.
