💀 This official Mayhem patch faithfully reproduces the iconic cover artwork of Deathcrush, the band's first commercial EP released in 1987. Its vivid red background, classic black logo and striking central photograph have made it one of the most recognisable images in black metal history.

The release that helped shape Norwegian black metal ⚡

Released in 1987, Deathcrush was Mayhem's first official recording. Blending primitive black metal, thrash and punk influences, the EP laid the foundations for the Norwegian black metal movement that would emerge in the years that followed.

It features songs including Deathcrush, Necrolust, Chainsaw Gutsfuck and a cover of Venom's Witching Hour.

A photograph with a real history 🔍

The photograph used on the cover was not created for Mayhem. Euronymous and Necrobutcher selected it from a press agency archive. It depicts two severed hands displayed in Mauritania, where they served as a public warning following a judicial punishment for theft.

Chosen for its shocking visual impact, the image soon became one of the most controversial artworks in extreme metal. Combined with the distinctive red background, it remains one of Mayhem's most recognisable visual trademarks.

💡 Did you know?

The original vinyl pressing of Deathcrush, limited to just 1,000 copies, is highly sought after by collectors. A printing error accidentally turned the intended red background bright pink, while later official editions—and this patch—restore the original red artwork.
