Official Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion iron-on patch – 9 × 10 cm

This official Guns N' Roses iron-on patch revisits the visual world of Use Your Illusion in a strikingly colourful composition. The iconic figure appears in black and white in the foreground, against a background combining the red and yellow associated with Use Your Illusion I and the blue and purple of Use Your Illusion II.

The Guns N' Roses name runs vertically along the right-hand side, using colours associated with both albums.

Use Your Illusion I & II: two albums released on the same day

On 17 September 1991, Guns N' Roses embarked on an extraordinary project by releasing Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II simultaneously. Following Appetite for Destruction and G N' R Lies, the two records revealed a considerably more ambitious side of the band.

The first volume includes tracks such as November Rain, Don't Cry, Live and Let Die and Coma, while the second features Civil War, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Knockin' on Heaven's Door and You Could Be Mine.

A Guns N' Roses cover inspired by Raphael

The visual identity of both albums was created by artist Mark Kostabi. His artwork is based on a detail from The School of Athens, the celebrated fresco painted by Raphael in the Vatican in the early 16th century.

Kostabi isolated and reinterpreted two figures from the fresco, including the young man bent over his notebook who appears in the foreground of this patch. Both albums use the same composition: Use Your Illusion I is dominated by red and yellow, while Use Your Illusion II uses blue and purple.

💡 Did you know?

The title Use Your Illusion did not originally come from a Guns N' Roses song. It was the title given to Mark Kostabi's Raphael-inspired artwork, which the band subsequently adopted as the name of its two 1991 albums.
