Guns N' Roses Flag – Appetite for Destruction

This Guns N' Roses – Appetite for Destruction flag features one of the band's most famous designs: a cross topped with five skulls, each representing a member of the classic line-up.

Against a black background, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, Axl Rose, Duff McKagan and Slash appear as caricatured skulls arranged around the cross. Two banners display the Guns N' Roses name and the Appetite for Destruction title.

Appetite for Destruction: Guns N' Roses' explosive debut

Released in 1987, Appetite for Destruction was Guns N' Roses' debut studio album. Its tracklist includes Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City and Sweet Child o' Mine, three songs that became staples of the band's career.

After a relatively slow start, the album took off in the United States and reached number one on the Billboard 200 in 1988. It went on to become one of the best-selling rock albums of all time.

The story behind the five-skull cross

The artwork featured on this flag was created by Billy White Jr., who knew Guns N' Roses during the band's early days. He portrayed the five members as skulls: Izzy at the top, Steven on the left, Axl in the centre, Duff on the right and Slash at the bottom.

The illustration became the defining image of Appetite for Destruction, although it was not originally intended to be the album's main cover.

Did you know?

The original Appetite for Destruction cover featured a painting by underground artist Robert Williams, also titled Appetite for Destruction. Its controversial imagery quickly caused problems, with several retailers refusing to stock the album with the original artwork.

Geffen replaced it with Billy White Jr.'s cross and five-skull design. The image became so closely associated with Guns N' Roses that Axl Rose later had the cross tattooed on his forearm. 🌹💀
