Welcome to the Family: from Nightmare

“Welcome to the Family” is the second track on Nightmare, Avenged Sevenfold's fifth studio album, released in 2010. The song was also released as a single that same year.

Nightmare holds a special place in the band's history. Work on the album had begun with drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who died in December 2009 before the album was recorded. Avenged Sevenfold subsequently brought in Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, one of The Rev's major influences, to record the album's drum parts.

Dark imagery in acid green

The design centres on a grinning skull with its eyes covered by a blindfold. Chains and skeletal hands surround the figure in a composition dominated by black and fluorescent green, continuing the macabre imagery long associated with Avenged Sevenfold.
