Everything about Slipknot: biography, style & influences

Slipknot, formed in Des Moines, Iowa, rose to prominence in the late 1990s as an iconic force in alternative metal and nu metal. Their sound — brutal, chaotic and cathartic — is matched by a striking visual identity: each member wears a mask and numbered jumpsuit, representing a distinct persona and a shared expression of rage.
The band’s legendary nine-member lineup includes #0 Sid Wilson (DJ), #1 Joey Jordison (drums), #2 Paul Gray (bass), #3 Chris Fehn (percussion), #4 Jim Root (guitar), #5 Craig Jones (samples), #6 Shawn Crahan (percussion, co-founder), #7 Mick Thomson (guitar), and #8 Corey Taylor (vocals). This collective redefined live performance, turning every show into a full emotional release.
Tracks such as Duality, Wait and Bleed, Spit It Out, Psychosocial, People = Shit, Me Inside and The Devil in I became modern metal anthems. From their chaotic debut (1999) to The End, So Far (2022), each album explores intense themes of anger, alienation and catharsis.
Despite the tragic losses of Paul Gray in 2010 and Joey Jordison in 2021, the band continues to embody a powerful presence in the global metal scene, influencing countless artists.
