John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne (December 3, 1948 – July 22, 2025) was an English singer and songwriter, widely regarded as one of the most iconic figures in heavy metal. First gaining recognition as the frontman of Black Sabbath, he helped lay the foundations of the genre with landmark albums such as Paranoid and Master of Reality.

After leaving the band, Ozzy launched a successful solo career in 1980 with Blizzard of Ozz, alongside virtuoso guitarist Randy Rhoads. Rhoads’ playing brought a fresh dimension to metal, especially on Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. His tragic death in 1982 at just 25 years old deeply affected Ozzy, who nonetheless continued releasing major albums including Bark at the Moon, No Rest for the Wicked and No More Tears.
