Everything about Kiss: biography, style & influences

KISS is one of the most iconic bands in the history of hard rock, known as much for its music as for its flamboyant visual identity. Formed in January 1973 in New York by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, the band quickly became a unique live phenomenon. Joined by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, the members adopted iconic makeup and characters — The Starchild, The Demon, The Spaceman and The Catman — which became their visual signature.
Their debut album KISS (1974) launched their career, but it was Alive! (1975), a high-energy live album, that brought massive success. Landmark records such as Destroyer (1976), Love Gun (1977) and Creatures of the Night (1982) combined powerful rock, catchy hooks and theatrical production.
Over the decades, KISS evolved into more than just a band — a true cultural phenomenon. Their visual universe, including makeup, logos and stage imagery, became deeply embedded in rock culture.
With over 100 million records sold and the monumental farewell tour End of the Road launched in 2019, KISS left a lasting impact on rock history and continues to inspire new generations.
