Everything about Green Day: biography, style & influences

Green Day is a Californian punk rock band formed in the late 1980s by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. Emerging from the underground scene of Berkeley, the trio broke into the mainstream in 1994 with Dookie — a punk explosion that reached a massive audience while staying true to its DIY roots.
Green Day’s music blends catchy melodies, raw energy and lyrics that shift between irony, rebellion and teenage disillusionment. Albums such as Insomniac (1995), Nimrod (1997) and Warning (2000) show a more diverse sound, while American Idiot (2004) and 21st Century Breakdown (2009) established the band as a political voice in modern punk.
With millions of records sold and a massive influence on the alternative scene, Green Day remains a key reference alongside Blink-182 and The Offspring.
