Everything about Dio: biography, style & influences

Dio represents the legacy of one of the greatest voices in hard rock history: Ronnie James Dio. After making his mark in the 1970s with Rainbow and Black Sabbath, he formed his own band in 1982, giving rise to a true legend of heavy metal.
With Holy Diver (1983), Dio established a signature sound: powerful and theatrical vocals, epic atmospheres and iconic visuals. Albums like The Last in Line (1984), Sacred Heart (1985) and Dream Evil (1987) combined melody and fantasy imagery, securing the band’s place among metal’s most influential acts.
Ronnie James Dio will forever be associated with the famous “devil horns” gesture, which he helped popularize, and with a noble, mystical vision of rock. His passing in 2010 left a huge void, yet his influence still shines across the metal scene.
