Cypress Hill are a cornerstone of West Coast hip-hop, formed in 1988 in South Gate, California. Led by B-Real and Sen Dog, with the dark, psychedelic production of DJ Muggs, the group stands out for its nasal flow, political lyrics, and deep countercultural roots.
Their debut Cypress Hill (1991) broke through with hits like “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “Hand on the Pump.” Mixing old-school rap, funk, and smoky atmospheres, they set the tone for alternative hip-hop. With Black Sunday (1993) and the global anthem “Insane in the Brain,” the group achieved worldwide fame. Their bold crossover with metal, especially on Skull & Bones (2000), cemented their place as one of the most innovative crews of their time.
Icons of the West Coast, cannabis culture advocates, and fearless performers, Cypress Hill remain one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history.
