Everything about Children of Bodom: biography, style & influences

Children of Bodom left a lasting mark on the European metal scene by combining virtuosity, aggression and melody. Formed in 1993 in Espoo, Finland, the band was led by the exceptional guitarist and vocalist Alexi Laiho, whose fast and precise playing helped redefine death metal with a melodic edge.
Their debut album Something Wild (1997) introduced a hybrid sound blending sharp riffs, neoclassical keyboard layers and progressive structures. The band gained wider recognition with Hatebreeder (1999) and especially Follow the Reaper (2000), often considered a landmark release in the genre.
Both brutal and highly technical, Children of Bodom became a key reference in Scandinavian metal, alongside bands like In Flames and Opeth.
Alexi Laiho remained a powerful stage presence until his passing in 2020, which brought an end to the band. Their legacy lives on through a rich discography combining intensity and melodic flair.
