Children of Bodom left a lasting mark on the European metal scene by blending virtuosity, aggression, and melody. Formed in 1993 in Espoo, Finland, the band was led by guitarist-vocalist Alexi Laiho, whose blazing technique and precise songwriting redefined melodic death metal.
Their debut album Something Wild (1997) introduced a distinctive mix of razor-sharp riffs, neoclassical keyboards, and progressive arrangements. Success followed with Hatebreeder (1999) and especially Follow the Reaper (2000), now regarded as a cornerstone of the genre. Both brutal and technical, Children of Bodom became a live powerhouse and a benchmark of Scandinavian metal.
Alexi Laiho’s charisma and creativity earned him legendary status until his passing in 2020, which marked the end of the Bodom era. Their rich discography — equal parts ferocity and melody — continues to inspire musicians worldwide.
