Everything about Black Sabbath: biography, style & influences

Formed in Birmingham in 1968, Black Sabbath is widely regarded as the founding band of heavy metal. Originally composed of Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, the band introduced a heavy, dark and groundbreaking sound with their self-titled debut album (1970).
With landmark albums such as Paranoid, Master of Reality and Vol. 4, the band laid the foundations of an entire genre: crushing riffs, oppressive atmospheres and a strong mystical imagery. Their influence extends across all metal scenes, from traditional styles to more extreme subgenres.
The charisma of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi’s iconic riff writing and the band’s cohesion made them a lasting legend. Their final studio album, 13 (2013), marked a return to their roots. To go further, explore essential bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
